Sharnice “Cubana” Walker was born on October 5th in the metropolitan area of the District of Columbia. Raised in the pinnacle era of R&B and Soul genres, singers like Whitney Houston and Tina Marie heavily influenced her vocal repertoire. Dedicated to accomplishing her dream of becoming a singer, Sharnice auditioned and attended the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts from 2007-2011 in pursuit of Classical and Opera vocal training with Ms. Angela Powell-Walker as her vocal coach.
Childhood for Sharnice was not an exact portrayal of a Norman Rockwell painting. Raised by a mother with an addiction to cocaine was challenging for Sharnice. For a span of ten years, Sharnice was exposed to the harsh reality of life from living in multiple shelters and with family members. The awakening moment for her mother hit when electricity and hot water was cut off. Her mother sought help and was placed in recovery and rehabilitation. By the time Sharnice graduated from middle school her mother was clean and sober for two and a half years, and she became an inspiration and motivation for Sharnice to audition for Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
“Your past is a lesson, your present is a gift, your future is your motivation.”-Zig Zigler
Sharnice’s experiences did not become a crutch in her life. Instead, it made her determined to work harder at becoming successful. Studying at Duke Ellington School of the Arts have solidified her passion for music. Even after graduation Sharnice has continued to find opportunities to remain on stage as a singer. In 2017, an invitation was extended to Sharnice by Kushner Entertainment to join their exclusive top band, Sound Connection. Through Sound Connection Sharnice was able to perform at events like the Washingtonian Inaugural Ball in 2017 at the National Portrait Museum, and venues like The Anthem, National Building Museum, Howard Theater, The Watergate Hotel, Willard Intercontinental, and the Washington Convention Center. Being in Sound Connection as one of the lead female singers was a life changing event for Sharnice. Inspired, she started to devote herself in studios and composition. While nominated for the Titans Award: Female Vocalist of the Year in 2018, Sharnice also worked on her EP album "Get Into It," which she had an opportunity to showcase her vocal abilities by performing "Selfish" acapella. 2019 she was nominated and won the Titans Award: Female Vocalist of the Year.
Sharnice released her album “Get Into It” in January, 2019. Entrepreneur minded, she started building herself, Sharnice the Singer, as a brand. Along the way, she was advised by Jenny Wu for a short period of time prior to the agreement of management. Sharnice was pleased to have Jenny there with her through some inspiring opportunities like opening for Bobby Valentino in Atlanta, Georgia February 2019. With the assistance of Jenny, Sharnice has been able to lead her very own band, Sharnice and The Encores, and continue to build as an artist. Sharnice felt like Jenny was the missing puzzle piece to her journey.
“To be trusted is a greater compliment than being loved.” – George MacDonald
Since 2019, Sharnice have secured regular performance venues such as Marvin DC and 7 Billiards Shady Grove with Sharnice and the Encores. She plans to continue expanding her stages so she can be an inspiration to the younger generation that may have a similar story and feel as though they have no hope to be better.
“You can do anything you set your mind to.” - Sharnice
By 2020 Sharnice was able to walk away from her full time job at State Farm and began growing her own business, Colorful Scissors, LLC, where she works as a mobile hair stylist servicing families and senior citizens. She now uses this business to invest in her music career.
Now being in control of her own time, she was able to focus on branding herself and taping into her Cuban roots by releasing bilingual music. In October 2021 she released her second EP album “Say Hello to the bad Guy” and her first bilingual single “Me Dè Mais”.
She went on to then gain the interest of Grammy nominated producer, Eric 88Fingaz Parham in October of 2022 after she released her latest single, “Caress Me” with a visual that displayed how creative and passionate she is about her craft. She later began working with not only 88Fingaz but also Grammy Award winning producer Darius “Deezle” Harrison. Sharnice has had the pleasure of working with an influential artist, actor, and entrepreneur LALoveTheBoss on a single called “Say Yeah” that released July 2023. Nothing is standing in Sharnice’s way when it comes to her chasing the limelight.
On April 26, 2023 she had the honor of performing the National Anthem at Audi Field for DC United Soccer Team, where her gift blew the crowd away. Definitely was a Whitney Houston influenced performance that would have made her idol very proud.
